RESPONSIBILITIES
Perlis Enterprise Inc. (PE) has set a new standard for defining and implementing programs that will enable the company to maximize the social and economic benefits associated with our projects while minimizing any negative impacts. To achieve this goal, several stakeholders, groups, and independent professionals were invited to contribute to the work. Together, a set of principles was developed to help us advance our project in an effective and socially responsible manner.
PE is committed to developing clear, open relationships with the community in its ongoing efforts to be a good neighbor that supports community and economic development in the region.
As a company seeking to do business in certain sensitive areas, PE recognizes the need and responsibility to be honest and forthright in its reporting of planning, progress, and operations. Without honesty, there can be no trust; without trust, there can be no genuine and timely progress.
PE understands that social responsibility means responsibility to the entire community. Stakeholders in our project include, but are not limited to, our investors, management and employees, but also of primary importance are the surrounding communities, Aboriginal peoples and the regulatory community. All of these groups must be taken into account.
At the same time, PE needs to achieve economic viability. Without this, the company will not be able to meet the financial demands associated with socially acceptable operating practices. PE understands this and will ensure a corporate culture that is prudent, honest and competent.
PE has already taken significant steps to learn about, understand and demonstrate its respect for the cultures and issues of the Aboriginal people affected by our projects, and we will continue to work hard to maintain these efforts. PE will also educate its employees and contractors about the cultures and issues of their Aboriginal neighbors to ensure that they also show the same care and respect for local people and issues.
PE firmly believes that the success of its endeavors depends on the support of local Aboriginal people. We would like to continue and strengthen these relationships by encouraging Aboriginal and Métis people in the region to play long-term and meaningful roles in the development and operation of our project.
PE plans to meet regularly with Elders and Aboriginal leaders, actively maintaining an open door policy. Not only are we interested in providing employment to people in the region, but we believe there is greater opportunity to explore the possibility of matching talent with job descriptions. We see this as a way to offer opportunities that are compatible with interests and cultural considerations, helping to ensure stable, long-term positions.
Above all, PE truly understands and respects the importance of the air, land and water in this region, elements that are the cornerstones of long-established northern society. When industrial activity is over, these cornerstones should be left intact.
